Digital Master Turtle — Lovesong 2
Digital Master Turtle
Lovesong 2 is the darker side of a love story: a love that is real, but not reciprocal. The narrator feels like an alien trying to reach someone from our planet. Post-punk guitar riffs meet disco and house beats, synths and electronic rhythms in an infernal dance of overflowing emotions. Beneath the dance lies a sense of approaching catastrophe — the feeling that something precious may never become possible.
Digital Master Turtle was born from a meeting of two obsessions: Eugene and Eugenia’s fascination with analogue synthesizers and sequencers, and Daniel’s love of dark, poetic songwriting in the tradition of Jim Morrison, Ian Curtis and Nick Cave.
The result is almost an electronic incarnation of a poetic rock band — where synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines take the place of a conventional rhythm section, while poetry and vocals remain at the centre. When heavy guitar riffs enter the machinery, however, the music moves into darker territory: somewhere between the atmosphere of 90s dark raves, the nocturnal world of Blade, and the cold futuristic energy of The Matrix.
It is electronic, but not quite dance music; poetic, but not quite rock. It lives somewhere between the analogue machine and the human voice.
